to Acupuncture
How do I prepare for my acupuncture treatment.
- Please arrive about 10 minutes early to fill our paperwork and allow
about an hour for your first visit. Eat a small meal or snack about one hour
prior to your appointment and wear loose, comfortable clothing.
What is an acupuncture treatment like?
-
The
acupuncturist will start with a complete health history intake, take your
pulse and look at your tongue to obtain a diagnosis.
- Then 4-12 acupuncture points will be chosen. Inserted by a skilled
practitioner, there is little to no pain on insertion of the needles.
Sometimes the patient will feel a tingling or numb feeling. This is very
normal, and is referred to as “daqi”, a sign that the body is reacting to
the treatment.
- Acupuncture needles are also sterile, disposable, and very thin. The
needles are retained in position for approximately 20 minutes while the
patient rests in the treatment room.
- For young children, acupressure and massage (infant tuina) is used
rather than needles.
How many treatments will I need?
-
This depends on each patient’s condition and wellness goals. It is my
goal to have patients get well as quickly as possible.
- The average patient feels relief of symptoms after the first treatment.
- For more simple conditions, one or two treatments is all the patient
needs.
- In some cases 10-12 sessions is more appropriate, especially to fix the
root of the condition.
- Other patients like to be treated once every 3 months or so for
preventative care or flare-ups.
Can acupuncture help my condition?
What are Chinese Herbs?
-
Acupuncturists
are the only health care provider licensed for prescribing herbs.
- After a diagnosis is obtained, a traditional herb or formula is
prescribed for your specific pattern, rather than only symptoms.
- Usually the herbs are in tablet form, but can also be in tea, powder,
capsule, or topical.
Does insurance cover acupuncture?
- As a courtesy to you, I will bill your insurance for treatments. I am
currently a preferred provider with Blue Shield and United Healthcare.
How much do the treatments cost?
- If paid at time of service: First visit: $70; Follow up visits: $55
- Senior discount: 10%
What days/ hours are you open?
- I am in the office by appointment Tuesdays through Fridays.
