How do I prepare for my acupuncture treatment.

  • Please arrive about 10 minutes early to fill our paperwork and allow about an hour for your first visit. Eat a small meal or snack about one hour prior to your appointment and wear loose, comfortable clothing.

What is an acupuncture treatment like?

  • Acupuncture of feetThe acupuncturist will start with a complete health history intake, take your pulse and look at your tongue to obtain a diagnosis.
  • Then 4-12 acupuncture points will be chosen. Inserted by a skilled practitioner, there is little to no pain on insertion of the needles. Sometimes the patient will feel a tingling or numb feeling. This is very normal, and is referred to as “daqi”, a sign that the body is reacting to the treatment.
  • Acupuncture needles are also sterile, disposable, and very thin. The needles are retained in position for approximately 20 minutes while the patient rests in the treatment room.
  • For young children, acupressure and massage (infant tuina) is used rather than needles.

How many treatments will I need?

  • This depends on each patient’s condition and wellness goals. It is my goal to have patients get well as quickly as possible.
  • The average patient feels relief of symptoms after the first treatment.
  • For more simple conditions, one or two treatments is all the patient needs.
  • In some cases 10-12 sessions is more appropriate, especially to fix the root of the condition.
  • Other patients like to be treated once every 3 months or so for preventative care or flare-ups.

Can acupuncture help my condition?
